Berta Rivera is director of FEGAS (Galician Public School Foundation of Health Management), associate professor at the University of A Coruña, Spain, and research fellow of the Center of Research in Economics and Health at Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Spain). She received her Ph.D. from the Pompeu Fabra University. Her main areas of research are health economics, economic development and fiscal policy.

Her doctoral thesis received a special award by the Spanish Ministry of the Economy and she has numerous articles in relevant journals including World Development, Applied Economics, The Review of Development Economics and Applied Economic Letters. She has taken part in health related research projects for different institutions, among them the Spanish Health Ministry, the Generalitat de Cataluña and the Xunta de Galicia.
